Stunning tilework inside Bahia Palace
We booked this a week ahead of our trip. mobile ticket worked straight away at the gate. The painted ceilings and zellige panels are incredible — we spent about an hour inside and still felt we rushed a bit.
Visit Le Jardin Secret — the Secret Garden — one of the calmest, greenest corners of the Marrakech medina. We arrange your entry and can pair it with a licensed local guide or a tuk tuk from your riad. Planned, checked and guided by our own team — not resold from a platform.
Le Jardin Secret — the Secret Garden — is a restored 19th-century riad and garden complex in the heart of the Marrakech medina, on Rue Mouassine near the Mouassine Mosque and Ben Youssef. After centuries as a private palace and decades as a ruin, it reopened in 2016 as one of the city’s most beautiful public gardens: two courtyards, an Islamic chahar bagh garden fed by the original 700-year-old khettara water system, and a tower with one of the best views over the medina. It sits inside the Medina of Marrakesh — a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Below you’ll find the current 2026 opening hours, what entry actually costs and how our booking works, what there is to see, and how to get there through the souks.
We are a licensed Marrakech travel agency. A note on how we book this one: Le Jardin Secret is privately run and issues its own tickets, so unlike a state monument we don’t sell an official ticket on their behalf. What we do — with the garden’s agreement — is arrange your entry and build it into a guided medina visit or a tuk-tuk trip. The garden’s own gate price is shown in full below, along with exactly what we add, so you can decide what suits you.
Last checked: 13 July 2026 by Khalid, Local Guide, licensed guide in Marrakech since 2012
Yes — and it’s the one monument on this list where “worth it” depends less on history and more on what you need from your day.
After the noise of the souks, Le Jardin Secret is a genuine exhale: birdsong, running water, palms and cypresses laid out in the classic Islamic four-part garden design, with almost none of the crowding of the palaces. It’s not a grand ruin like El Badi or a decorated palace like Bahia — it’s smaller, calmer, and greener, and that’s exactly the point. People come here to slow down.
The two things that lift it above “a nice garden” are the water system — a working 700-year-old khettara that still feeds the fountains, which a good guide will explain — and the tower, which for a small extra charge gives you a 360° view over the medina rooftops to the Atlas Mountains. The on-site café and the exhibition on Islamic garden design round it out.
Be realistic about size: most visitors spend 45 minutes to an hour here. If your trip is packed with monuments and you’re short on time, it’s a lovely pause but not essential. If you want one calm, beautiful hour away from the crowds — and a great rooftop view — it’s one of the best in the medina.
How long do you need? Forty-five minutes to an hour, including the tower.
Le Jardin Secret is at 121 Rue Mouassine, in the Mouassine quarter of the northern medina, between Jemaa el-Fnaa and Ben Youssef Madrasa. The entrance is on the busy Rue Mouassine souk street — look for the doorway, as it’s easy to walk past among the shops.
About 7 minutes (500 m) via Rue Fehl Chidmi and Rue Mouassine. Head north into the souks from the top of the square; the garden entrance is on the main Mouassine street. The route is flat but busy — you’re walking through the market, so allow for the crowds.
On foot from Ben Youssef Madrasa
A few minutes south through the Mouassine quarter — the two pair naturally into one northern-medina visit.
About 22 minutes (1.6 km) via Rue Riad Zitoun el Jdid. Bahia is in the southern medina, so this is a proper walk across the old city rather than a quick hop — better paired by tuk tuk if you’re doing both.
By tuk tuk
We collect you from your riad door and drop you as close to the Rue Mouassine entrance as the souk lanes allow (+€20 per group). Given how easy the entrance is to miss and how tangled the Mouassine streets are, this is the simplest option for first-time visitors.
Arriving from outside the medina
If you’re staying in Guéliz, Hivernage or the Palmeraie, take a taxi to College Mohamed 5 or Bab Lakssour (Gate) area and walk in — cars can’t reach the entrance itself.
Go in the morning, soon after it opens at 09:30.
The garden is quietest early, before the midday souk crowds, and the light in the courtyards is at its best. Because it closes earlier than the state monuments, morning also protects you from arriving to find it shut. Weekdays are calmer than weekends, and spring and autumn — when the planting is at its fullest — are the loveliest times to visit.
For photographers: the tower view is clearest in the morning before the haze builds, and the empty garden courtyards photograph best in the first hour after opening.
The site of Le Jardin Secret goes back more than four centuries, to the Saadian dynasty, though the complex you see today was largely rebuilt in the mid-19th century as the palace of a powerful caïd under the Alaouite sultans. Its owners were among the political heavyweights of their day, and the riad was designed on a grand scale, watered by the same khettara system that still runs today.
Through the 20th century the palace fell into ruin and was abandoned for decades. A major restoration began in the 2000s, and in 2016 the site reopened to the public as Le Jardin Secret — reviving both the historic Islamic garden and the medieval hydraulic system that feeds it. It’s one of the medina’s newer visitor attractions, but built on some of its oldest foundations.
Read the full History & Architecture guide →
The garden courtyards are largely flat and among the more manageable sites in the medina at ground level.
The two real obstacles are the approach and the tower. The entrance is reached through the narrow, crowded Rue Mouassine souk, which is uneven and busy; and the tower is accessible only by a staircase, so the panoramic view is not step-free. The garden itself, café and exhibition are mostly at ground level.
If mobility is a concern, message us on WhatsApp before booking. A tuk tuk removes most of the souk approach, and we’ll tell you honestly which parts of the site — the garden yes, the tower no — will work for you.
Monument passes bundle several sights at up to 15% off — with a private tuk tuk between every one.

The official garden entry is €10, paid at the gate or on the garden's own website, with a small extra charge to climb the tower. We arrange a booked, confirmed visit for €12 per person — the €10 entry plus a €2 booking-and-support fee — and can include a licensed guide or tuk tuk for more.
Yes. Le Jardin Secret is privately run and sells its own tickets at the gate for €10. Booking through us adds advance confirmation, the option of a guide or tuk tuk, and a local team on WhatsApp — for a transparent €2 more. If you'd rather walk up and pay the €10 yourself, that's completely fine.
If you want a calm, green hour away from the souk crowds and a great rooftop view, yes — it's one of the most peaceful spots in the medina. If your day is already packed with palaces and you're short on time, it's a lovely pause rather than a must-see. It's smaller and quieter than Bahia or El Badi by design.
An Islamic four-part garden and an exotic garden, a tower with a 360° medina view, a working 700-year-old khettara water system, restored riad pavilions with an exhibition, and a café.
Forty-five minutes to an hour, including the tower.
For most visitors, yes — it's one of the best accessible viewpoints in the old city, looking over the rooftops to the Koutoubia and the Atlas. It's reached by stairs, so it's not step-free.
Not to enjoy the garden — it's small and self-explanatory. But a guide brings the khettara and the Islamic garden design to life, and it pairs neatly with a walk through the Mouassine and Ben Youssef quarter, which is where a guide really earns their place.
The garden, café and exhibition are largely at ground level, but the entrance is through a narrow, crowded souk street and the tower is stairs-only. Message us before booking and we'll advise honestly on what will and won't work.
500 metres, about 7 minutes on foot north through the souks via Rue Mouassine.
Easily — they're both in the Mouassine/Ben Youssef quarter, a few minutes apart, and make a natural northern-medina pairing. We can arrange both in one visit.
