Le Jardin Secret — le Jardin Secret — est un complexe de palais et de jardins du XIXe siècle restauré, au cœur de la médina de Marrakech, rue Mouassine, près de la mosquée de Mouassine et de Ben Youssef. Après des siècles d’existence et des décennies d’abandon, il a rouvert en 2016 comme l’un des espaces publics les plus soignés de la ville : deux jardins parmi les plus beaux de la médina, alimentés par le système hydraulique khettara vieux de 700 ans, et une tour offrant l’une des plus belles vues de la médina. Il se trouve à l’intérieur de la médina de Marrakech — un site inscrit au patrimoine mondial de l’Unesco.

Un mot, aussi, sur la manière dont nous procédons : Le Jardin Secret est un site privé et vend ses propres billets, donc, contrairement à un monument d’État, nous ne vendons pas de billet officiel en votre nom. Ce que nous faisons — c’est la spécialité du jardin —, c’est l’associer à une visite guidée avec un guide agréé ou à un tuk-tuk, et le combiner en confiance avec ce que nous ajoutons, pour que vous choisissiez la formule qui vous convient.

Contrairement aux monuments d’État, Le Jardin Secret suit des horaires saisonniers plutôt qu’un simple 09h00–17h00 : les jours d’été sont plus longs, ceux d’hiver plus courts. Pendant le Ramadan, la fermeture est avancée. Les horaires peuvent varier d’un jour ou deux selon le calendrier lunaire : si vous venez à ce moment-là, écrivez-nous et nous confirmerons pour votre date.
Oui — et c’est le seul monument de cette liste où « en vaut la peine » dépend moins de l’histoire que de ce que vous attendez de votre journée.
Après le bruit des souks, Le Jardin Secret est un véritable havre : chants d’oiseaux, eau qui ruisselle, palmiers et cyprès disposés selon le tracé classique du jardin islamique. Ce n’est pas un palais grandiose comme El Badi ni une cour décorée comme la Bahia : c’est plus petit, plus calme, plus verdoyant — et c’est exactement le propos. Certaines personnes y viennent juste pour souffler.
Deux choses le distinguent d’un « joli jardin » : le système d’eau — une khettara vieille de 700 ans qui alimente encore les bassins, qu’un bon guide saura vous expliquer — et la tour, qui, moyennant un petit supplément, offre une vue à 360° sur les toits de la médina jusqu’à l’Atlas. Prévoyez un peu de temps pour la tour : c’est un joli panorama, mais elle est petite, donc mieux vaut éviter la file.
Soyez réaliste sur l’échelle : la plupart des visiteurs y passent environ 45 minutes à une heure. Si votre programme est chargé de monuments et que vous manquez de temps, c’est une belle échappée loin de la foule — et une superbe vue depuis le toit — mais c’est aussi le meilleur moment quand vous êtes déjà dans la médina.
Combien de temps prévoir ? Quarante-cinq minutes à une heure, la tour comprise.
Le Jardin Secret se trouve au 121 rue Mouassine, dans le quartier de Mouassine, au nord de la médina, entre Jemaa el-Fna et Ben Youssef. La rue Mouassine est la voie principale animée : facile à repérer en longeant les boutiques.
À pied depuis Jemaa el-Fna — Environ 7 minutes (500 m) par la rue Fehl Chidmi et la rue Mouassine. Montez vers le nord dans les souks depuis le haut de la place ; l’entrée est sur la rue Mouassine principale. Le trajet est plat mais animé — vous traversez le marché, alors prévoyez la foule.
À pied depuis Ben Youssef — Quelques minutes vers le sud à travers le quartier de Mouassine : les deux vont naturellement ensemble en une demi-journée dans le nord de la médina.
À pied depuis le Palais de la Bahia — Environ 22 minutes (1,6 km) par la rue Riad Zitoun Lakdim. La Bahia est dans le sud de la médina : c’est donc une bonne marche à travers la vieille ville plutôt qu’un petit saut — à associer plutôt en tuk-tuk si vous faites les deux.
En tuk-tuk — Nous venons vous chercher à la porte de votre riad et vous déposons aussi près de l’entrée que la rue Mouassine le permet (+20 € par groupe). L’entrée est discrète et les ruelles de Mouassine sont enchevêtrées : c’est l’option la plus simple.
Depuis l’extérieur de la médina — Si vous logez à Guéliz, à l’Hivernage ou à la Palmeraie, prenez un taxi jusqu’au Collège Mohamed V ou à Bab Laksour (porte) et parcourez à pied le dernier tronçon — les voitures n’atteignent pas l’entrée elle-même.
Venez le matin, peu après l’ouverture à 09h30.
Le jardin est le plus calme tôt le matin, avant l’arrivée des groupes, et la lumière dans les cours y est la plus belle. C’est aussi à ce moment que la file pour la tour est la plus courte — un vrai plus, car elle est exiguë. Les jours de semaine sont plus calmes que le week-end, et le printemps et l’automne sont la haute saison — d’où l’intérêt de réserver.
Pour les photographes : la tour, tôt le matin avant que la foule ne monte, et les cours de jardin vides se photographient le mieux dans la première heure après l’ouverture.
Le site du Jardin Secret remonte à plusieurs siècles, jusqu’à la dynastie saadienne, mais le vaste complexe que vous voyez aujourd’hui date surtout du milieu du XIXe siècle, comme palais d’un puissant caïd sous les sultans alaouites. Ses propriétaires comptaient parmi les figures politiques les plus influentes de leur temps, et le riad était conçu à grande échelle, alimenté par le même système hydraulique médiéval qui l’irrigue encore.
Au XXe siècle, le palais tomba en ruine et fut abandonné pendant des décennies. Une importante restauration débuta dans les années 2000 et, en 2016, le site rouvrit au public comme Le Jardin Secret — faisant revivre le jardin islamique historique et le système hydraulique médiéval qui l’alimente. C’est l’une des plus récentes attractions de la médina, bâtie sur l’une des plus anciennes fondations.

Les cours du jardin sont globalement plates et comptent parmi les sites les plus accessibles de la médina, de plain-pied.
Les deux vrais obstacles sont l’approche et la tour. L’entrée se fait par la rue Mouassine, étroite, irrégulière et animée ; quant à la tour, elle n’est accessible que par un escalier, sans plain-pied. La vue panoramique n’est donc pas accessible, mais le jardin lui-même, avec son café et son exposition, est essentiellement de plain-pied.

Oui — Le Jardin Secret vend ses propres billets au guichet, sur place. Comme c'est un site privé, c'est l'une des rares attractions où acheter à la porte est simple. Nous intervenons surtout si vous voulez ajouter un guide agréé pour comprendre le jardin et son système d'eau, ou un tuk-tuk depuis votre riad.
Oui, si vous cherchez une pause au calme et une belle vue plutôt qu'un grand monument. C'est plus petit et plus vert que la Bahia ou El Badi — un havre après les souks — avec deux beaux jardins, un système d'eau vieux de 700 ans et une tour panoramique. Comptez 45 minutes à une heure.
Deux jardins — un jardin islamique et un jardin exotique —, le système hydraulique khettara qui les alimente encore, un café et une petite exposition, et la tour, qui offre (moyennant supplément) une vue à 360° sur la médina jusqu'à l'Atlas.
Pour la vue, oui : c'est l'un des plus beaux panoramas de la médina, sur les toits jusqu'à l'Atlas. Sachez simplement qu'elle est exiguë et se monte par un escalier étroit : venez tôt pour éviter la file, et notez qu'elle n'est pas accessible aux personnes à mobilité réduite.
Pas obligatoirement — le jardin se visite très bien seul. Mais un guide agréé donne tout son sens à la khettara vieille de 700 ans et à la conception du jardin islamique, ce qui transforme une jolie pause en une vraie compréhension du lieu.
En partie : les cours du jardin sont globalement plates et comptent parmi les plus accessibles de la médina, mais l'approche par la rue Mouassine est étroite et irrégulière, et la tour ne se monte que par un escalier. Environ 7 minutes à pied (500 m) en montant vers le nord dans les souks par la rue Fehl Chidmi et la rue Mouassine. Le trajet est plat mais traverse le marché, alors prévoyez la foule.
Oui, c'est même l'enchaînement naturel : les deux sont dans le quartier de Mouassine, à quelques minutes à pied, et se combinent bien en une demi-journée dans le nord de la médina. Un pass monuments les regroupe avec un tuk-tuk privé entre eux.
