La mejor luz es temprano, antes de que el sol esté alto sobre el patio a cielo abierto, y de nuevo en la última hora antes del cierre, cuando los muros se doran y las cigüeñas se posan en las murallas.

El Badi es una ruina, y es algo buscado. En la década de 1690, el sultán Muley Ismail lo hizo despojar de forma sistemática —el mármol, el oro, el ónice, el cedro— y transportar al norte para levantar su nueva capital en Mequinez. Lo que queda es el esqueleto: enormes muros de tapial, un vasto patio hundido, naranjos donde antes había salas de recepción, y cigüeñas que anidan en las murallas. No hay salas amuebladas. No hay techo. Quien llega esperando un palacio restaurado como la Bahía suele quedarse descolocado.
Ven, entonces, por lo que es de verdad. La escala es sencillamente impresionante: fueron 360 estancias y un patio del largo de un campo de fútbol, todo pensado para empequeñecer a los embajadores de visita. Ponte en medio de la explanada vacía: ese vacío es justo el mensaje. Esto es lo que le ocurre al palacio más magnífico del imperio cuando la siguiente dinastía decide que quiere el mármol.
La otra razón para ir son las vistas. La terraza y las murallas —actualmente abiertas— ofrecen uno de los mejores panoramas de la medina, sobre todo el barrio de la Kasba en dirección al Atlas, con los nidos de cigüeña a la altura de los ojos.
Aquí es donde un guía lo cambia todo. Sin él, ves grandes muros ocres. Con él, estás dentro de la historia del oro del Sáhara, de un imperio despojado y de un sultán apodado «el Dorado». Por eso la mayoría de nuestros clientes que visitan El Badi eligen una visita guiada.
¿Cuánto tiempo necesitas? De cuarenta y cinco minutos a una hora basta para la mayoría; más si eres fotógrafo o llevas guía.
El Palacio El Badi se encuentra en el corazón de la medina de Marrakech, en el barrio de la Kasba.
Desde la Place des Ferblantiers: Unos 1 a 2 minutos (110 m). Desde la plaza, ve hacia el sur cruzando el arco hacia Ksibat Nhass: la entrada del palacio está justo enfrente. Es el acceso más sencillo y el que conviene indicar a tu taxista o al conductor del tuk-tuk.
A pie desde Jemaa el-Fna: Unos 11 minutos (750 m). Sal de la plaza hacia el sur por la calle Riad Zitoun Lakdim y síguela hasta la Place des Ferblantiers; la entrada del palacio está justo pasada la plaza. El trayecto es llano y fácil.
A pie desde el Palacio de la Bahía: Unos 6 minutos (450 m) por la calle Bahia Bab Mellah. Los dos palacios están lo bastante cerca para enlazarlos, y juntos cuentan las dos mitades opuestas de una misma historia: uno intacto, el otro despojado.
En tuk-tuk: Te recogemos en la puerta de tu riad y te dejamos en la entrada (+20 € por grupo). Los callejones de la medina despistan de verdad, y los coches no llegan al palacio. Es la opción que eligen muchos de nuestros clientes, sobre todo con el calor del mediodía.
Desde fuera de la medina: Si te alojas en Guéliz, Hivernage o la Palmeraie, coge un taxi hasta la Place des Ferblantiers y recorre a pie los últimos 110 m: los vehículos no pueden llegar a la entrada en sí.
Ve a la apertura, a las 09:00, o a partir de las 15:00.
El Badi es un sitio grande y abierto, casi sin sombra: el mediodía es caluroso y la luz es plana. A primera hora de la mañana está fresco y tranquilo; la última hora antes de las 17:00 da una luz dorada sobre los muros y el regreso de las cigüeñas a sus nidos. Entre semana hay más tranquilidad que el fin de semana. La primavera y el otoño son temporada alta, así que reservar tu fecha con antelación merece la pena.

El Badi —«el incomparable», uno de los noventa y nueve nombres de Dios— fue levantado por el sultán saadí Ahmad al-Mansur para celebrar su victoria sobre los portugueses en la batalla de los Tres Reyes, en 1578. La construcción empezó ese mismo año y se prolongó cerca de un cuarto de siglo.
Lo pagó con oro. Al-Mansur pidió rescate por sus prisioneros portugueses y, en 1591, envió un ejército a través del Sáhara para conquistar el Imperio Songhai y hacerse con el comercio del oro y la sal por Tombuctú, una riqueza que le valió el apodo de al-Dhahabi, «el Dorado». El mármol de Italia, según se cuenta, se compró al peso, cambiado libra por libra por azúcar marroquí. Terminado, el palacio tenía unas 360 estancias, un patio más largo que un campo de fútbol, jardines hundidos y pabellones revestidos de oro, ónice y zellige.
Apenas duró un siglo. Hacia 1696, el sultán alauí Muley Ismail hizo desmantelar El Badi de forma sistemática —una tarea que llevó más de una década— y transportar sus materiales al norte para levantar su nueva capital imperial en Mequinez. Lo que recorres hoy es la ruina deliberada que dejó atrás: un monumento no al poder de un sultán, sino a la rapidez con que puede llevárselo el siguiente.

El patio principal es un amplio espacio abierto y en su mayor parte llano, pero es una ruina de 600 años y el suelo es irregular: tierra apisonada, grava y piedra desgastada, con algunos umbrales elevados.
A la terraza se llega por una rampa larga en lugar de escaleras, lo que ayuda, aunque la superficie es irregular. A las galerías subterráneas se accede por escaleras y no están libres de escalones. El acceso desde la Place des Ferblantiers es corto y llano.

La entrada del Palacio El Badi cuesta unos 40–100 MAD (unos 4–10 €) en taquilla, en dírhams en efectivo. Al reservar online con nosotros ves ese precio oficial más nuestra comisión por completo, pagado con tarjeta, con una entrada móvil que evita la cola de taquilla.
Sí: el palacio vende entradas en taquilla el mismo día, al mismo precio oficial. Las contrapartidas son el efectivo en dírhams y una cola que a menudo dura entre 20 y 30 minutos a mediodía, sin sombra. Si llevas dírhams y no te importa esperar, la taquilla va bien; si prefieres pagar con tarjeta y evitar la cola, reserva con antelación.
Sí, siempre que sepas que es una ruina a cielo abierto, no un palacio restaurado. Ven por la escala, las murallas y las vistas de la Kasba hacia el Atlas y, a ser posible, con un guía, que convierte unos grandes muros ocres en una historia de oro del Sáhara e imperio despojado.
La Bahía es un palacio del siglo XIX intacto y amueblado, con techos pintados y patios de zellige; El Badi es una ruina saadí del siglo XVI, despojada hasta los muros. Juntos cuentan las dos mitades de una misma historia: uno muestra el esplendor conservado; el otro, lo que queda cuando se lo llevan. Están a unos 6 minutos a pie el uno del otro.
El vasto patio hundido, los enormes muros de tapial, los naranjos, las galerías subterráneas y la terraza con sus nidos de cigüeña y sus vistas de la Kasba. No hay salas amuebladas ni techo: el interés es la escala y la historia, no el mobiliario.
La terraza y las murallas están actualmente abiertas y ofrecen uno de los mejores panoramas de la medina. El acceso puede cerrarse puntualmente por seguridad o meteorología: escríbenos para confirmarlo el día de tu visita.
No es obligatorio, pero es el sitio donde un guía más cambia la experiencia: sin él, ves grandes muros vacíos. La mayoría de nuestros clientes que visitan El Badi contratan una visita guiada para entender lo que se alzaba aquí.
De cuarenta y cinco minutos a una hora basta para la mayoría; prevé más si eres fotógrafo o llevas guía.
En parte: el patio principal es llano pero el suelo es irregular, a la terraza se llega por una rampa larga y a las galerías subterráneas por escaleras. Dinos quién forma tu grupo antes de reservar y te diremos con honestidad qué funciona; un tuk-tuk hasta la Place des Ferblantiers elimina la aproximación.
A unos 6 minutos a pie (450 m) por la calle Bahia Bab Mellah. Están lo bastante cerca para enlazarlos en la misma media jornada.
Sí: te recogemos en tuk-tuk privado en la puerta de tu riad y te dejamos en la entrada. Por los callejones de la medina y el calor del mediodía, es la opción que eligen la mayoría de nuestros clientes.
Sí, fácilmente: ambos están en el barrio de la Kasba, a pocos minutos a pie uno del otro, y se combinan bien en una media jornada. Un pase de monumentos agrupa los dos con un tuk-tuk privado entre ellos.
